I have noticed that the program seems to calculate the TP-1 return differently when a dependent child has a different address from that of the family head, why is that?

We do not recommend to enter a different address from that of the family head for a dependent child if you wish to claim amounts for or transfers from the dependant. Also, typically, dependants in this situation move to a different address every year or so because they attend CEGEP or University out of town, so it may be more convenient to keep the tax address at parent's home until they move for good.

If you must file a different address for the dependant, check the calculation done by the program carefully to make sure the calculation reflects the tax situation of the dependant and his/her family. Contact our support team if you need help with such a file.
